KEARNEY — The Arc of Buffalo County is hosting Kearney’s second Disability Pride Day on Friday at Harmon Park from 1-7 p.m.

The event will feature a concert by Blue Plate Special, along with vendors, games, tie-dyeing T-shirts, face painting, hair tinsel, and food trucks. A Kearney Police Department vehicle and Kearney Volunteer Fire Department fire truck will be on site. The resource fair will be in the Harmon Park Activity Center from 1-5 p.m., and the concert is set for 5-7 p.m.

“Disability is a natural part of the human experience” said Jordan Squiers, Executive Board President of The Arc of Buffalo County. “This event is a great opportunity for all community members to embrace our differences in a fun, judgment free environment.”

The event is co-sponsored by Integrated Life Choices and Mosaic. Additional sponsors include Molina Healthcare, Nebraska Total Care, Amanacare, the Spectrum Center for Autism, Community Supports Network, Enable, Ryan Smith Counseling, Megan Smith Speech Therapy, Moonlight Custom Screenprint and Embroidery, and Skeeter Barnes.

Disability Pride Day has been celebrated in July across the United States and in Lincoln at the Capitol prior to this year. The month of July was chosen to mark the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990.

The Arc of Buffalo County advocates for the rights and full participation of all children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc’s events include Buddy Bowling, Fishing Club, Guys and Girls Nights Out, art classes, and cooking classes.
