The start of the Huskers season and the Dylan Raiola era began with a 40-7 win over UTEP.
Nebraska didn’t waste any time, getting on the board first at the 9:00 mark in the first quarter with a Dante Dowdell 5 yard rushing touchdown. UTEP, after punting to end their first offensive drive, only needed three plays on its second drive to tie the game up, with a 38 yard touchdown pass from Skyler Locklear to Kam Thomas.
The Huskers were poised to score early in the second half, but disaster struck with a Dowdell fumble at the UTEP 3 yard line. The Blackshirts defense would stuff the Miners two plays later with a Ty Robinson safety.
On Nebraska’s next drive, Raiola would dazzle the 86,072 at Memorial Stadium with a 59 yard touchdown, only needing 2 plays to reach the endzone.
Nebraska would score one final time going into the locker room, with a Jahmal Banks 21 yard reception to make the score 30-7.
The Huskers would score another touchdowns in the second half, with Gabe Ervin punching a touchdown from one yard out in the third quarter, as Coach Rhule started to rotate younger players into the lineup.
Nebraska is now 1-0 for the first time since the 2019 season. The attention now turns to 1-0 Colorado, who won 31-26 against North Dakota State. Kickoff is set for 6:30pm, and you can listen to the game on KGFW and Hits 106.
