It was a WOGI (We Own Grand Island) night at Grand Island’s Memorial Field, as the Kearney High Bearcats soundly defeated the Islanders, 42-0.

Grand Island was unable to move the ball in their first offensive drive, and was forced to punt. Unfortunately, Rhett Mundorf was injured in that kickoff return and did not return to the contest.

After a missed field goal, the Bearcats wouldnt take long to score again, with a Griffin Novacek pass touchdown to Josh Dolence from 15 yards out to open up the scoring.

After a Levi Pofahl rush touchdown to close out the first quarter, Novacek would add a pair of QB keepers to double the lead, as Kearney went into the locker room leading 28-0.

The Bearcat starters would get one last touchdown in the game, as Novacek would connect for a long ball to Zaire LaGrone-Miller for a 34 yard strike.

Later in the third quarter, the Bearcats would get the reserves some playing, and John Florell’s second string would drive the ball through the third quarter, and triggered the running clock on a Zach Atchison 2 yard rushing touchdown.

Kearney High moves to 2-0, with a pivotal early season tilt against Millard South on Thursday. The Patriots (1-1) dismantled Millard West on Thursday, 56-0. Grand Island falls to 0-2 and hits the road for the first time this season, going up against Lincoln East.
