GRAND ISLAND — Week Without Violence, a global movement led by YWCAs across the country, has been a powerful force for over two decades, dedicated to ending violence against women and girls. This initiative continues to raise awareness, amplify survivor voices, and inspire communities to take action.

This year, National Week Without Violence will take place from October 21 – 25, with a theme focused on an often overlooked issue: “Financial Trauma: From Financial Abuse to Safety and Justice.” This theme highlights the lasting impact of financial trauma and abuse, drawing attention to how economic harm is deeply rooted in systemic inequities, harmful policies, and unjust practices.

In recognition of this critical issue, the YWCA of Grand Island, Willow Rising, and Hope Harbor are excited to host a unique event that invites community participation and creativity. On October 21st, we will hold a Group Painting Fundraiser at Arts & Drafts, offering a space for reflection, expression, and action.

As part of this event, we are calling on local artists to submit their artwork for display. We welcome submissions from artists of all skill levels whose pieces reflect the emotional, physical, and financial toll that violence can have on women and their families.

In addition to displaying their artwork at the event, artists will have the option to auction their pieces, with proceeds benefitting YWCA, Willow Rising, and Hope Harbor. Submissions should include the artwork along with a brief bio and be sent to Tiffany Karre at tkarre@ywca-gi.org.
