Nebraska Volleyball completed their weekend sweep Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center with a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-16, 25-12) over Rutgers.
The first set was very much back and forth, with 3 tie scores and 2 lead changes. After an 8-8 tie, Nebraska would take a 5-1 run to force the first Rutgers timeout at 13-9. Rutgers would take a 3-0 run out of that timeout, and Nebraska would respond with another 5-0 run, and Nebraska would score the last four points to win set 1, 25-15.
The Huskers hit .206 in the first set, with Harper Murray leading the way in the set with 5 kills. Rutgers was held to .000 hitting (8 kills, 8 errors).
After Rutgers was forced to call timeout in the second set, down 11-5, Harper Murray would pick up 2 aces on the next three points. Rutgers wasnt able to get much momentum in the second set, as Nebraska would build their lead out to 17-7, but Rutgers would score 7 of the next 10 points to force the lone Nebraska timeout of the match.
The second set was led by Rebekah Allick, who had 4 kills on 6 attacks in the set, and the Huskers hit .214 as a team to Rutgers’ .089.
The third set was all Nebraska, as the Huskers hit .615 in the third set, including six blocks.
The Huskers altered their starting lineup, giving some key players some rest in the match. Andi Jackson only played in the first set, while Lindsay Krause only played in the third. Allick was rested in the first set, and started the second and third sets. Harper Murray and Bergen Reilly were the only players to start all three sets.
Murray led Nebraska with 13 kills, while Leyla Blackwell hit .600 in the match (9 kills on 15 attacks). Reilly had 35 assists and 13 digs.
The Huskers are now 16-1 and 6-0 in Big Ten play, while Rutgers fell to 5-12 and 0-6 in Big Ten play. When the AVCA Coaches Poll is released on Monday afternoon, the Huskers could be the new No. 1 team, after Pitt fell to SMU in five sets.
The Huskers hit the road next week, taking on Michigan State in East Lansing next Friday (October 18th) at 5PM. NU will play at Ohio State the following day at 2:30 p.m.
