KEARNEY — Kearney Public Schools announces the retirement of Teresa Schnoor, the respected and beloved principal of Central Elementary.

Teresa retires with 38 years in education, having dedicated the last 18 years to Central Elementary, where she has been a cornerstone of leadership and growth.

Under Teresa’s leadership, Central Elementary has flourished into a warm and welcoming environment where students from all nationalities thrive academically and emotionally. Known for her empathy, dedication, and collaborative approach, Teresa has fostered a strong sense of community within the school, building lasting relationships with students, staff, and families.

Reflecting on her career, Teresa shared, “I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve as the principal of Central Elementary. This role has allowed me to work alongside incredibly talented colleagues who generously shared their wisdom and expertise, making the journey incredibly rewarding. The diversity of our families has enriched my life, providing me with a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures and perspectives. As a former music teacher, the chance to collaborate with the Merryman Performing Arts Center has been an unforgettable highlight. Thank you, Central Elementary and Kearney Public Schools.”

Superintendent Jason Mundorf remarked, “Kearney Public Schools has many terrific leaders, but Teresa Schnoor takes a back seat to no one.

Her instructional leadership, support of staff, structure for students, and love of everyone is incredible. Central Elementary has long been one of the highest-performing elementary schools in our district and Mrs. Schnoor is sought out by others for her incredible organizational skills, educational acumen, and ability to work with her staff. Teresa Schnoor’s contributions to Central Elementary and our district are profound. She has been a transformative leader, shaping Central into the welcoming and nurturing place it is today. Her impact will be felt for generations, and while we will miss her dearly, we celebrate her legacy and wish her the very best in retirement.”
