HASTINGS — A possible low impact snow event could take place in central Nebraska Wednesday night. Cold front intrusions will knock down temperatures into the 20s after Thanksgiving.

An overall quiet start to the work week is expected with plenty of sun today. Gusty winds out of the northwest will gradually diminish from west to east throughout the day. Highs will be in the mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service – Hastings.

Tuesday looks to be warmer as southwesterly winds and a moderating airmass will help highs rebound back into the mid-40s and low 50s.

Moving to the middle of the week, models continue to show that an upper-level low pressure system will continue to its eastward push out of the Pacific Northwest and into the Rockies. It should lose some strength as it does so.

A shortwave disturbance is expected over the area Wednesday night, and this is the only chance for precipitation for the seven-day forecast period.

The general trend of models over the past several days has been diminishing the overall magnitude of and threat of snow across the forecast area. There will be little snow accumulation for those areas that do see any precipitation.

An attended cold front will swing south through the region and bring back northerly winds and colder temperatures. Any precipitation in the area will push south overnight.

For Thanksgiving Day, any precipitation should be clear of the area by sunrise. There should be dry conditions, and more sunshine expected for the holiday.

The expected winds on Thursday will be lighter and lighten up before switching to the south on Friday. Just before another cold front swings through during the weekend and shifts to be out of north northwest once again.

Highs will drop into the upper-20s over the weekend.
