Nebraska Volleyball had a bit harder match against a Sunshine State opponent on Saturday, but still prevailed with a sweep over the 8th seeded Miami Saturday night (25-19, 25-14, 25-18).
“We had no expectation of this being a steamroll,” Rebekah Allick said.
The first set started off with Miami taking the first point off of a Allick attack error, followed by a three point Nebraska rally. Miami wouldnt give any breathing room, ending the first set with 5.5 blocks. The Huskers held Miami to .091 in the set, while Merritt Beason had 4 kills.
In the second set, Nebraska took 7 of the first 10 points, before Miami would charge back to cut the lead to 9-7. The Huskers would also take two services aces in a 7-1 run in the middle of the set, with aces from Harper Murray and Kennadi Orr. The Huskers were led by 4 kills from Murray and 11 assists from Bergen Reilly.
Nebraska had their best performance in the third set, hitting .357 in the match and holding Miami to .000 (10 kills and 10 errors). Much like the second set, Nebraska took 7 of the first 10 points, and would stretch that lead out after taking 9 of the first 12 points. Miami would tighten up the lead with two 3-0 runs to get within four points twice, but the Huskers would prevail to win in straight sets.
Nebraska had a balanced attack with 9 kills from Harper Murray to lead the team, alongside 8 kills apiece from Taylor Landfair and Merritt Beason. Bergen Reilly tallied 33 assists, and Murray led the team with 12 digs while Lexi Rodriguez had 9.
Miami was led by a 14 kill effort from Flormarie Heredia Colon, with Grace Lopez adding 9. Ariana Rodriguez had 26 assists.
Nebraska, now 31-2, will take on Dayton. The Flyers defeated Baylor last night in 5 sets. Wisconsin and Texas A&M will also be in Lincoln next weekend. Matches will be on KGFW.
