Kearney High Basketball defeated Lincoln East on Saturday to complete their sweep of the weekend. Both teams are 2-0 going into their home opener on Tuesday.
The Kearney High girls defeated Lincoln East, 48-36. After trailing 34-32 after the third quarter, the Bearcats stifling defense held the Spartans to 2 points in the fourth quarter. Kelsey Hatcher led the Bearcats with 18 points, while Augusta Ganz contributed 9 points.
The boys game was a gritty 58-52 win over the Spartans. The Bearcats would lead by as many as 11, but Lincoln East would battle back and keep the game close throughout. Jacob Webber led all scorers with 21 points, and Ben Johnson joined him in double digit scoring with 14 points.
After their metro opening weekend, Kearney will host the Lincoln Southeast Knights for the 2024-25 home opener. Tipoff for the girls game is set for 5:15 PM, and the boys game tipoff is set for 7PM. Both games will be broadcast on KGFW.
