HASTINGS – Returning this year to highlight the holidays, Heartwell Park Luminary Night is planned for this Sunday.

Over a thousand glowing luminaries will line the porches, walkways and sidewalks of Heartwell Park residences on Sunday, December 15. Neighbors will begin placing luminaries at dusk and they will be displayed throughout the evening. Event organizers, Matt, Kaleena and Vivian Fong, provided 20 luminary bags and tea lights to every house encircling Heartwell Park, along Forest Boulevard and Lake Side Boulevard.

This year, United Way of South Central Nebraska will collect toys during Luminary Night for its annual toy drive. Visitors can drop off their toys in the parking lot near Heartwell Park island.

“Luminary Night has become a wonderful way for our neighborhood to come together and celebrate the holidays. We enjoy sharing the beauty of Luminary Night with the entire community,” said Matt Fong. “We’re excited to continue this annual tradition now in its 5th year.”

Additionally, the JoyRide Pedal Car will be offering trips around Heartwell Park to see the luminary display. Trips around the park will be offered for only $5 and will load in the parking lot at the Gray Center on the Hastings College campus.

The community is invited to drive through the park and view the display. “We hope the community enjoys this night of beauty and light,” Fong said
