KEARNEY — The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about fake warrant calls that have been reported recently.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of scam calls using local Cairo phone numbers. The callers claim that there is a warrant for your arrest due to missed jury duty or court dates.

These scams are designed to trick people into giving away personal information. The sheriff’s office notes that legitimate law enforcement agencies will never demand personal details or payment over the phone.

If contacted by this scam call, the sheriff’s office advises people to hang up immediately, don’t give out any personal information, block the number if the calls persist and to spread the word among friends and family.
