GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island police officer was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence over the weekend and an investigation is underway.
Grand Island Police Chief Kevin Denney said in a statement, “Over the weekend, we did have one of our GIPD officers arrested for suspicion of DUI. The DUI investigation is being performed by the Nebraska State Patrol. The officer in question is currently on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. The police department takes these allegations seriously, and it is an unfortunate situation. I remind you the officer, like everyone else, is entitled to their rights under the law.”
It was noted there will be no further comment from the GIPD at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
