LEXINGTON — On Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at approximately 7:30 pm, Lexington Police Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Cherokee Road in Lexington to a young male lying in the street with unknown injuries.

Upon arrival, Officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid to the juvenile. Officers continued life saving measures until the Lexington Rescue personnel arrived. The 16-year-old juvenile was then transported to the Lexington Regional Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Officers and Investigators of the Lexington Police Department then processed the scene and learned the juvenile victim, along with two other juveniles had been “car surfing”.

The14-year-old driver had been inside of the vehicle along with a 13-year-old passenger while the 16-year-old was lying on the hood with the vehicle in motion. The driver believed a vehicle was backing out of their driveway and applied the brakes. When the driver applied the brakes the 16-year-old juvenile fell backwards off the vehicle striking his head on the concrete street.

The 16-year-old juvenile was flown to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, and sadly succumbed to his injuries today, Monday, Dec. 30, 2024.

The names of all juveniles involved are being withheld and the investigation into this incident is on-going.
