LOUP CITY — On Sunday Dec. 29, 2024 at approximately 12:40 p.m., Region 26 Emergency Management was contacted about a grass fire on Highway 58 near 797 Road- north of Loup City.
Loup City Fire Department Arcadia Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Sherman County Nebraska Sheriff responded.
This fire was intentionally started by an individual or individuals lighting fireworks from a vehicle. This creates a dangerous situation especially with the extremely dry conditions.
This is one of five or six suspicious grass fires within the last year in Sherman County. Evidence was collected at this scene and will be analyzed.
Besides criminal charges, identified individuals may be liable for damages, cost of property, and cost of response at a minimum.
This fire today, as well as several others, have been in close proximity to residences and livestock. This could result in major loss to life or property.
