GRAND ISLAND — Three teens were arrested by the Hastings Police Department following vehicle thefts and a pursuit that took place in Grand Island on Thursday, Jan. 2.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers were dispatched to W. Division St. in reference to a vehicle theft.
While heading to the location, officers were advised the suspects had left the area and were westbound. While checking the area, officers received a call that a second vehicle, a silver Ford Escape, had also been stolen.
The victim was able to use a tracking device to locate the vehicle at a nearby gas station; it was later located on Highway 281 near Highway 34.
An officer would initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, weaving in an out of traffic, posing a danger to public safety. The traffic stop was discontinued and the vehicle continued south bound out of the city limits.
The GIPD was later notified that the vehicle was located along with three juvenile males, 15-year-old, 13-year-old and 14-year-old, by the Hastings Police Department.
All three juveniles were arrested and later transferred to juvenile detention centers after a probationary intake. The vehicles stolen were estimated to be valued over $5,000.
All three were arrested for theft by unlawful taking – more than $5,000 and felony flight to avoid arrest.
