KEARNEY — The City of Kearney celebrated the first Monday of 2025 by reflecting back on 2024, “which was an incredible year of growth, community, and progress in Kearney.”
Here are some highlights:
1. Downtown Revitalization Projects
Kearney has been focusing on the continuous efforts to revitalize and enhance its downtown area with improvements such as updated infrastructure (electrical improvements, etc.), beautification efforts, new business incentives, and public spaces to encourage growth and tourism.
2. Transportation and Roadway Improvements
Ongoing improvements to major roadways, bridges, and transportation corridors such as:
– Talmadge Street Striping from 3rd Ave – 10th Ave
– Talmadge Street from 10th Ave to Yanney Ave
– 56th St & 11th Avenue Traffic Signal
– 28th Street Paving from Avenue I to Avenue L
– 2024 Asphalt Mill & Overlay
3. Kearney’s Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrades
Investment in upgrading the city’s wastewater treatment plant to meet increasing population and regulatory needs, improving sustainability and efficiency.
4. Parks and Recreation Development
Continued expansion and improvements of parks and recreational facilities such as walking trails, the SportsPlex, and other facilities aimed at enhancing quality of life for residents.
5. Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives
Projects focusing on sustainability including energy efficiency programs, recycling initiatives that reduce the city’s carbon footprint.

The City of Kearney is creating more opportunities to bring our community together through events, programs, and activities that inspire connection and celebrate our vibrant spirit.
8. Public Safety Enhancements
Investments in fire, police, and emergency response services to ensure the city’s growth does not outpace the capacity for public safety services.

10. Improvements to Kearney Regional Airport
Enhancements and expansions to the Kearney Regional Airport to accommodate more passenger, improve infrastructure, and support business and tourism growth.
