GIBBON — Firefighters from Gibbon and Shelton endured temperatures in the single digits while responding to a structure fire southwest of Gibbon during the morning hours of Monday, Jan. 6.
Around 10:40 a.m., the Gibbon Volunteer Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a property south of the 56th Road and Sod Town Road due to the report of a structure fire.
Black smoke was visible from a distance as deputies with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and advised that it was a shed on the property which had caught fire.
Ten minutes after the initial call, Gibbon requested mutual aid from Shelton Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
Firefighters from both communities had to endure temperatures in the single digits while fighting the fire. The temperature in Kearney at the time of the fire was only eight degrees with a wind chill of negative six.
There was no information on the cause of the fire or potential injuries at the scene.
