HASTINGS — The coldest temperatures of this recent Arctic air outbreak will occur today, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect across the region until noon Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Wind chills were in the range of minus 10 degrees to minus 25 degrees, only reaching zero degrees through minus 20 degrees this afternoon. They will drop back down into the minus 15 to minus 25-degree range.
“Despite some decent sunshine today, temperatures will struggle to warm more than 10-15 degrees thanks to reinforcing surge of bitter cold air,” NWS Hastings stated, “Values this cold are not uncommon for this region, but to remain that low even with some sunshine and lack of snow cover is kind of impressive.”
The air temperature will moderate significantly by Tuesday afternoon and will reach into the mid-20s to mid-30s range. There will be strong southerly winds so wind chills could still be in the teens.
By the end of the week, Friday may be the first day that will feel noticeably warmer as highs climb into the 40s and 50s and the winds will moderate.
