SHERMAN CO. — Firefighters with Loup City and Rockville tackled two fires amid freezing temperatures on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
During the evening of Friday, Jan. 17, the Loup City Fire Department was dispatched due to a grass fire that occurred three miles east of Loup City of Highway 92, according to the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office.
Other area units were dispatched to provide mutual aid, these included Ashton Fire, Loup City-Rockville Cooperative Ambulance Squad and the Region 26 Emergency Management.
“With the high winds any fire can get out of control quickly. This was not a previous controlled burn, but if you had a burn permit pay close attention to previously ignited areas,” the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office stated.
During the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 19, the Rockville Fire Department responded to a tractor and feed wagon fire. The fire occurred in close proximity to a shed and loader tractor.
The tractor was a total loss with damage to wagon and loader.
