KEARNEY — A Red Flag Warning for critical fire weather conditions is in place across central Nebraska for Monday, Jan. 27.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the warning is in effect from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Temperatures will warm into the 50s for much of the region; this combined with the dry dewpoints and low relative humidity values dropping into the teens and low to mid 20s will contribute to the fire weather conditions.
Winds will be out of the west at sustained speeds of 15-20 mph with gusts up to 20-25 mph.
Residents are asked to avoid any activities that could potentially start a fire. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
