GRAND ISLAND — Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the U.S. killing more than 480,000 Americans each year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For those interested in quitting, CHI Health St. Francis offers Freedom from Smoking–a 7-week tobacco cessation program created by the American Lung Association. Led by certified instructors from St. Francis, the first session is scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in Conference Room 6 A/B at the hospital.

In a small and supportive group setting, the program addresses if you’re ready to quit smoking, chewing or vaping, lifestyle changes, coping strategies and stress management. A participant handbook, relaxation DVD and quit day tools are also included.

This program is free and open to the community.
