The No. 16 Nebraska softball team opened the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 4-1 victory over the Baylor Bears in the first of two games Thursday at the Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, Calif. They fell to #4 UCLA 9-1 in six innings in their second game.
Jordyn Bahl (4-1) earned the victory in the circle for Nebraska in the Baylor game. Bahl did not allow an earned run and struck out nine batters while tossing a two-hitter. Lillie Walker (1-2) took the loss for Baylor (7-5).
Offensively, Olivia DiNardo went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Bella Bacon hit a home run for the Huskers and Hannah Camenzind had two hits, both of which were RBI singles.
The UCLA contest was tied 1-1 after three innings and Nebraska trailed just 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but UCLA pulled away with two runs in the fifth and five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The difference in the game proved to be situational hitting, as Nebraska was 0-for-13 with runners on base while UCLA was 7-for-14.
Hannah Camenzind (1-1) took the loss for the Huskers (9-3), while Taylor Tinsley (2-0) claimed the win for UCLA (11-1). Camenzind started and allowed only one hit in 3.1 innings, but she was charged with two runs. Kylee Magee gave up four runs in 2.0 innings, while Emmerson Cope allowed three runs in 0.1 innings.
Offensively, Jordyn Bahl, Kacie Hoffmann and Hannah Camenzind notched a hit apiece for NU.
The Huskers will play one game today, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. (CT) against No. 11 Duke at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The game will be streamed on FloSoftball and can be heard for free across the Huskers Radio Network.
