Kearney Public Schools is pleased to announce Sarah Coffman as the new Head Coach for the Kearney High School Swimming and Diving Team, following the retirement of longtime coach Jane Bartee.
A proud KHS alumna, Coffman brings deep roots in the Bearcat swimming community and a passion for developing young athletes. Her journey in the sport began at Kearney High, where she swam all four years and built lasting memories both in and out of the pool. After graduation, she continued her swimming career at the University of Nebraska at Kearney for two years until a shoulder injury shifted her path from athlete to coach.
“My love for coaching swimming began as an athlete in high school, which was truly an unforgettable experience,” said Coffman. “After my injury, I committed more time to coaching, developing, and inspiring young athletes. These past two years as an assistant coach for KHS Swim and Dive, I have learned what it means to be a dedicated coach, how to build skilled athletes, and how to create a positive environment for our team.”
In addition to her role with KHS, Coffman is the co-owner of Tidal Swim Club, where she has worked with swimmers of all ages and abilities, helping to foster both skill development and character growth.
“Coach Coffman has a strong foundation as a high school and college swimmer and has gained valuable coaching experience helping the Bearcat program under the guidance of Coach Bartee these last two seasons,” said Kearney High School Athletic Director and Assistant Principal, Ryan Hogue. “She brings a great balance of technical knowledge, leadership, and heart to this role. Her dedication to building both competitive swimmers and a positive team culture makes her a great candidate to lead the Bearcat Swimming and Diving program.”
Coffman credits former head coach Jane Bartee for encouraging her to take on the assistant coaching role in 2023, a decision that fueled her passion and prepared her for this next chapter.
“It is a true privilege to be able to share my passion with this team and guide us toward excellence,” Coffman added. “I am honored to continue the legacy that Coach Bartee built and to lead this incredible group of athletes.”
Coffman will begin her new role immediately as she prepares the Bearcat swimmers and divers for the upcoming season.
