Kearney Public Schools Administration Office, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)

KEARNEY — As part of ongoing efforts to prioritize student and staff safety, Kearney Public Schools has implemented a new visitor check-in system across all school buildings using the CENTEGIX Visitor Management platform.

This new safety protocol requires all visitors—including parents, guardians, and community members—to securely check in through the school’s front office using the Centegix system. Visitors will have their driver’s licenses scanned and screened against national databases, including registries for sexual offenses and custom school safety watchlists. Once verified, they will receive a clearly visible CENTEGIX visitor badge, ensuring only authorized individuals are on school campuses at any given time.

“Keeping our students and staff safe is our highest priority,” said Jeffrey Schwartz, Director of Student Services and Safety for Kearney Public Schools. “The Centegix system allows us to know exactly who is in our buildings, when they arrive, and when they leave. This kind of visibility is a game-changer for school safety. It gives our staff peace of mind and helps us respond more quickly and effectively in any situation.”

The visitor management system enhances the district’s ability to monitor school access while maintaining a welcoming environment for families and community members. All visitors to KPS campuses are now required to check in at the front office and wear their CENTEGIX badge for the duration of their stay.

“Parents will have to get used to providing a driver’s license, even when the staff at the school recognizes them, but it is all in the name of safety for our students and staff,” said Schwartz.
