MAYWOOD — A Maywood teacher accused of sexual abuse of students has sought the depositions of several witnesses in the case.
Nicholas High, 29, of Bertrand, has been charged with two counts of manufacturing visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct, a Class 1D felony; two counts of third-degree sexual abuse by a school employee, a Class 4 felony and two counts of child abuse, a Class 3A felony.
High filed bail in the amount of ten percent of $250,000 on Monday, Jan. 13.
High was listed on the Maywood Public Schools website as a physical education teacher and coach.
In a filing in district court, High through his legal counsel, is seeking the depositions eight individuals, five only listed by their initials and three other individuals.
The depositions were asked to be taken on May 19 and May 20 at the Curtis Community Center. Judge Patrick Heng approved the motion to depose all the witnesses listed.
A status hearing was continued to May 21 at 10 a.m. via Zoom.
According to the amended complaint, on Nov. 1, 2021, through on or about Nov. 30, 2021, High induced or caused a student, born July 2005, to engage in a visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct.
From Nov. 22, 2021, through on or about Aug. 4, 2023, High engaged in a pattern or scheme to subject a student to sexual penetration or contact, the complaint states.
From Aug. 2020, through on or about May 31, 2021, the complaint alleges that High permitted minors, born Feb. 2003 and April 2007, to be placed in a situation to be sexually abused.
