KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney Police Department has been recognized as an Accredited Law Enforcement Agency by the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice.

This accreditation, awarded through the Nebraska Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Program, affirms that UNK’s department meets or exceeds statewide professional standards for policing practices, accountability and public service. The accreditation is valid through 2027.

“This recognition reflects our department’s strong commitment to the safety, integrity and well-being of the UNK campus community,” said UNK Police Chief Ricci Fast. “We take great pride in meeting the highest standards for law enforcement in Nebraska.”

UNK is one of the select university and college police departments in the state to earn this distinction. The multi-year accreditation process involves a comprehensive review of policies, training, operations and community engagement strategies.

“Accreditation strengthens public trust and enhances the professional culture within our department,” Fast said. “It shows that our officers are dedicated not only to enforcing the law but doing so with transparency, consistency and care for those we serve.”

The Nebraska Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary initiative designed to promote continuous improvement and excellence in policing across the state. Agencies that earn the designation must demonstrate compliance with dozens of established best practices.
