LEXINGTON — The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of scammers who are impersonating law enforcement officials.
According to the sheriff’s office, scammers are contacting Dawson County citizens who identify themselves as law enforcement, saying they have a warrant for their arrest.
The scammers are asking for money over the phone to take care of the warrant.
“The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office does not contact subjects informing them of any warrant for their arrest. We especially do not ask for any money or payment over the phone. If you receive one of these calls and would like to verify its authenticity, you can always call the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office to confirm,” per the DCSO.
“Regardless, you should never make a payment or give confidential information about yourself over the phone,” the DCSO concluded.
