GRAND ISLAND — A suspect attempted to escape from law enforcement multiple times during and after an arrest in Grand Island on Wednesday, April 2.
According to the GIPD, around 2:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to S. Vine St. for a domestic assault call. It was reported to the GIPD that Christian Jensen had been contacted at a residence under suspicion of having sexual relations with a minor.
Jensen would then flee from the scene, followed by one of the family members.
Officers contacted Jensen near Oklahoma Ave. and Oak St. When attempting to pat him down prior to putting him in the back of a patrol car, Jensen would pull his arms away from officers and begin to back up.
The officer had to grab Jensen’s shirt to prevent him from fleeing, when the shirt ripped, the officer went to grab him again but Jensen tripped over the curb and the officer fell on top of him.
Jensen would ultimately be placed in double locked handcuffs and taken by patrol vehicle to the Law Enforcement Center to be interviewed.
While being interviewed, the GIPD says that Jensen got up and ran toward the door. Officers were able to grab onto Jensen as he fought to get away from officers and was given verbal commands to stop.
Jensen was pushed up against the wall and did not comply with commands to place his hands behind his back. Officers had to deliver knee strikes to Jensen’s legs to gain compliance.
Jensen would be arrested for obstruction, resisting arrest and felony escape.
