HASTINGS — While Monday will be the coolest day of the week, there will be a gradual warm up with 70s and 80s expected on Sunday. There is a chance for rain showers Tuesday night, along with near critical fire weather conditions mid-week.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, a cold front moved through northeast Nebraska early Monday and will continue its push southward. High temperatures will range from the low 50s to the mid-60s.
Winds will shift to the southeast this evening and low temperatures will dip into the 20s and mid-30s with mostly clear skies.
By Tuesday, winds will start of the south and then become more westerly in response to an oncoming area of surface low pressure. Highs will range from the mid-60s in the north to 80s in the south.
Relative humidity values will be around 17 to 25 percent in the Tri-Cities area and winds around 20 mph will result in near critical fire weather conditions on Tuesday.
During the evening, there is a 15 to 20 percent chance for rain showers primarily north of the Tri-Cities area as another cold front moves through the region.
Wednesday will look like a repeat of Tuesday, with near critical fire weather conditions, followed by additional rain chances 15 to 25 percent that will spread farther southward across south central Nebraska.
“Winds will turn more northerly across south central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas under the backside of an upper trough on Thursday. These northerly winds will bring slightly cooler temperatures with highs in the low to mid-60s to low 70s,” according to NWS Hastings.
More near critical fire weather conditions could be in place on Thursday, with the same issues of stronger winds and low relative humidity.
By Friday the winds will be lighter, which will dimmish the fire weather threat.
“A further warmup is expected on Saturday with winds increasing out of the south and temperatures warming up into the mid-70s to low 80s. Overnight temperatures will be on a warming trend as well with lows Saturday night in the mid-40s to mid-50s. The warming trend continues into Sunday with high temperatures in the upper 70s to upper 80s,” NWS Hastings stated.
