HASTINGS — A Red Flag Warning for critical fire weather conditions is in place for all south-central Nebraska during the afternoon and evening hours of Monday, April 14.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the warning will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Winds are expected out of the northwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts as high as 45 mph.
Relative humidity values are expected to drop as low as 15 to 20 percent across the region. Any fire that develops will spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
While temperatures are cooler in the wake of a cold front that swept through the area, critical fire weather conditions are still in place.
Temperatures will climb back above normal for Tuesday, but with lighter winds, any near-critical fire weather concerns will be limited to areas along and west of Highway 183.
Breezy southerly winds will transport a warmer and moister airmass across the area on Wednesday, but some elevated fire weather concerns will still exist as temperatures climb back into the mid-80s.
“Additional fire weather concerns are expected primarily across north central Kansas on Thursday, before more seasonable temperatures and occasionally unsettled weather returns late in the week and into next weekend,” per NWS Hastings.
