LINCOLN — Grand Island will be the No. 2 seed and Kearney is seeded fourth in this week’s Heartland Athletic Conference baseball tournament.

The Islanders (7-3) received a first-round bye and are scheduled to open HAC Tournament play at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sherman Field in Lincoln. Grand Island will face the winner of Tuesday’s noon game between No. 7-seeded Fremont (5-8) and No. 10 seed Norfolk (3-9).

The Bearcats (7-6) also have a first-round bye. Kearney will play No. 5 seed Lincoln Northeast (8-5) in a 2:30 p.m. contest Tuesday at Lincoln’s Densmore Park.

The four winners of Tuesday’s quarterfinals will advance to the HAC Tournament semifinals on Wednesday, starting at noon at Den Hartog Field in Lincoln. The championship game will be played 30 minutes after the completion of the second semifinal Wednesday at Hartog Field.

Lincoln East (14-2) is the No. 1 seed in the 11-team HAC Tournament field. Lincoln Southwest (9-4) is the third seed, Lincoln North Star (6-4) is seeded sixth, Columbus (4-9) is eighth, Lincoln Southeast (4-9) is ninth and Lincoln High (3-10) is seeded 11th.
