GRAND ISLAND — A suspect was referred for charges in Grand Island after he entered a residence, assaulted a woman and stole her car with two juveniles inside on Saturday, April 12.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, around 7:18 p.m., officers responded to N. Sheridan Ave. in reference to a reported robbery.
On scene, officers learned that a male had unlawfully entered a residence, assaulted a 32-year-old woman, robbed her of her keys and stole a vehicle while a 17-year-old female and 11-year-old female were inside.
The woman attempted to exit the residence but was physically stopped by the male. It was reported that the male suspect and woman were previously in a relationship.
The man fled the area in the vehicle to avoid police contact.
According to the GIPD, the man, identified as Alex Cruz, has been refereed for third degree domestic assault, two count of negligent child abuse, theft by unlawful taking – $1,500-$4,999, robbery, first degree false imprisonment and burglary.
