GRAND ISLAND — Weather permitting, work will begin Sept. 23 on Stolley Park Road, from Freedom Drive west of US-30 to Engelman Road, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Werner Construction of Hastings is the contractor. Stolley Park Road will be closed west of US-30 at Freedom Drive to about 2,000 feet east of Engelman Road.

The contractor will remove the existing asphalt on Stolley Park Road where US-30 will be realigned with the new 4-lane divided highway and replace with 8-inch doweled concrete pavement on stabilized subgrade.

Stolley Park Road could be closed up to 120 days during the construction of the new intersection.

Motorists are asked to use an alternate route during the construction of the new pavement. Traffic will be maintained on Stolley Park Road with temporary traffic controls and signs.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
