COZAD — In a Highway 30 rivalry, the Cozad Haymakers notched their points early in a eventual 27-7 win over the Gothenburg Swedes during the evening of Friday, Oct. 4.
Cozad was able to hit several explosive plays, while Gothenburg’s most promising drive of the first half ended in a missed field goal. The score would be 27-0 at halftime.
Gothenburg’s defense was able to stiffen in the second half and the Swedes found a run game that worked to get them their only touchdown of the night during the third quarter.
Following an inadvertent surprise watering of the field by the sprinklers in the fourth quarter, Gothenburg was unable to convert on a fourth down call and Cozad was able to burn through the rest of the clock for a 27-7 victory.
Cozad improves to 5-1 on their season and will next face the Adams Central Patriots who are 2-3 on the year.
Gothenburg has now lost four in a row and are 2-4 on their season. Next Friday the Swedes will take on the Holdrege Dusters.
