NEBRASKA — During the month of September 2024, twenty-seven people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
- These 27 fatalities occurred in 21 fatal crashes.
- Ten of the twenty-one vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, four were using a seatbelt,
and seven had seatbelt usage marked as unknown. - Fifteen of the fatalities were in rural locations*.
- There were three fatalities on the interstate, eighteen on other highways, and six on local roads.
- Six of the fatalities were motorcyclists.
- Two of the fatalities were driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).
- There were 21 fatalities in September of 2023.
- Only 40 of the 143 vehicle occupants killed during 2024 were using seatbelts.
* The Federal Highway Administration definition for urban is an area with a population of 5,000 or more.
