GRAND ISLAND — A Westridge Middle School and Skills Academy student was arrested following an incident during the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 12.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, a reporting party with the Skills Academy requested assistance with an offender who was causing a disruption in the school during a re-entry meeting.

The student was failing to comply with any directions from the school staff and was screaming, cursing and throwing chairs and trash cans.

They were given multiple warnings to leave the school but refused. The student was then escorted out of the building.

The GIPD later learned that the student had assaulted his probation officer and his mother during the meeting.

The student was contacted again by officers to be detained but he fled from them. Officers gave several verbal commands to stop fleeing but refused to do so.

The student was eventually caught, handcuffed and transported to the Hall County Law Enforcement Center. They were eventually transported to emergency foster care after juvenile probation completed juvenile intake.

The student was arrested for third degree assault on an officer and resisting arrest.
