HASTINGS — The Hastings College Student Art Show is open Nov. 15 through Thursday, Dec. 15 in the galleries at the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (700 E. 12th Street).
A reception for the show, during which prizes will be announced, is at 6 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 15, in the JDAC.
Each year, the Department of Visual Art at Hastings College invites all students to submit their artwork for consideration in the Student Art Show. Submissions are evaluated by a guest artist, and three prizes will be awarded: Best of Show, Best 2-D and Best 3-D.
For this year’s exhibition, the guest artist selected 23 pieces from 18 students to include in the show.
The JDAC galleries, located at 700 E. 12th Street in Hastings, are open from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The galleries, lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
This year’s exhibition was judged by Todd Brown, an architectural designer, carpenter and visual artist based in Hastings. He earned bachelors and masters degrees in architecture from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. With a strong background in historic renovation, Brown’s work in this field has granted him unique access to the spaces he captures in his photography.
As a self-taught carpenter and artist trained in architecture, Brown’s creative pursuits extend to sculpture and photography. His work is featured in the Karen and Robert Duncan and Kathryn and Marc LeBaron collections, reflecting his versatile approach to both traditional and unconventional mediums.
