KEARNEY — On Nov. 26, 2024, at approximately 7:39 a.m., the Kearney Police Department along with the assistance of the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, and members of the Tri Cities Drug Enforcement Team (TRIDENT) served a search warrant at a residence in the 800 Block of B Avenue, in Kearney, in regards to an ongoing drug investigation.
Upon completion of the search warrant, approximately 15 firearms were located along with approximately 1 pound of marijuana and over $5000 in US currency. A small child was also contacted inside of the residence and arrangements were made to assure the child went to a safe environment.
Christopher M. Carter, 41 years of age, and Christina L. Carter, 44 years of age, were arrested at the residence and transported to the Buffalo County Jail.
Christopher Carter was jailed for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person (1D felony), possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) with the intent to distribute (felony), possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and misdemeanor child abuse (no injury). Christina Carter was jailed for aiding and abetting for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person (1D felony) as well as being charged for the same additional above listed charges.
The mother of the small child, 22 years of age, who was also present in the home was cited and released for misdemeanor child abuse.
KPD would like to thank all of our law enforcement partners that helped in the service of this search warrant as well as the Buffalo County Attorney’s Office and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services who both provided additional assistance in this investigation.
KPD would also like to continue to encourage members of the community to report concerns or suspected criminal activity to law enforcement as it helps keep Kearney a safe place to live which is a top priority of this department.
