KEARNEY — A home on Yanney Ave. South is a total loss following a structure fire that took place during the afternoon hours of Thursday, Dec. 26.
According to the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to 290 Yanney Ave. for the report of a structure fire at 5:22 p.m.
Enroute to the fire, dispatch advised that the home was almost fully engulfed and there were no occupants in the structure.
Arriving on scene, KVFD set up a command and began attacking the fire. A water shuttle operation was established for water supply.
The fire was brought under control at 8:03 p.m., and the house is a total loss. There were no injuries.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal was requested to assist with the investigation, preliminary evidence suggests the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical event in the area of the living room on the first floor.
The KVFD was assisted on scene were the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, CHI Good Samaritan EMS, Nebraska Public Power District, CHI Health Good Samaritan EMS and Black Hills Energy.
