Kearney High School (KHS) is proud to announce that the 2024 Boys Track Team and their coaches will be recognized in person for their outstanding achievement as state champions during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against Grand Island Senior High on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025.
The game will take place at the Kearney High School gymnasium, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
The recognition ceremony will celebrate the hard work, dedication, and success of the boys track team, which brought home the state championship in 2024. This event offers the community an opportunity to come together and show their support for KHS athletes, past and present.
“This will be a special evening as we honor a group of student-athletes and coaches who not only dominated their competition during the 2024 track season (82-0 in invites and state) but did it with a team mentality supporting each other to the fullest in an individual based sport. This team was a lot of fun to watch and that first day at state set the tone for this championship and will go down as one of the most thrilling first days in KHS track history.” said Ryan Hogue, KPS Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. “We encourage all Bearcat fans to pack the gym and cheer on our basketball teams on February 6th while also helping us celebrate the achievements of our state championship boys track team.”
Broc Howard, KHS Track coach commented, “The 2024 track and field team became the 17th team in school history to bring home a state track and field championship trophy. They were a remarkable group of young men to coach as they were genuinely more excited about their teammates accomplishments than their own. Their parents and families along with the community members and all of the past alumni should be proud of the way they represented Kearney High School and the Kearney community. Please help recognize them at halftime as we will add our 44th (all sports) state championship banner to the rafters.”
Tickets for the game are available at the door. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to ensure seating and to show their Bearcat pride during this exciting evening of sports and recognition.
