LINCOLN — The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is releasing a new interactive map creating increased access to information about WIC services in Nebraska. This tool allows people to search for WIC clinics near them and provides clinic information including address, phone number, and a link to more details via the clinic’s website.
“WIC is a vital resource in providing healthy food, nutrition services, health screenings and referrals, and breastfeeding support for families in need across Nebraska,” said Dr. Timothy Tesmer, DHHS Chief Medical Officer. “This interactive map makes finding and connecting with a WIC clinic near you easier than ever.”
WIC is a federally funded program that provides nutritious foods, health education, and breastfeeding support to women who are pregnant or just had a baby, infants, and children up to the age of five. In Nebraska, WIC serves every county in the state with 13 main agencies and 97 sites state-wide.
“Our Nebraska WIC program serves about 36,500 eligible people in communities across Nebraska each month,” Tesmer said. “Moms, dads, grandparents, foster parents, and guardians are encouraged to make an appointment at their local WIC office to apply for the program.”
Current Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or Aid to Dependent Children (ADC) recipients are income-eligible for the WIC program. However, if families’ incomes are too high for these programs, they may still qualify for WIC. All foster children under five years of age and pregnant teen moms in foster care are income-eligible for WIC.
