Kearney Police Department, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)

KEARNEY — The Kearney Police Department, in partnership with the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety, will be stepping up enforcement efforts this St. Patrick’s Day to keep impaired drivers off the road.

Additional patrol officers will be deployed throughout the city to deter, detect, and apprehend drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Why It Matters: In 2022, alcohol-impaired driving accounted for 32% of all motor vehicle fatalities in the U.S., resulting in 13,524 deaths. To combat this alarming statistic, Kearney police will increase patrols throughout the day and night, enforcing a zero-tolerance policy
against impaired driving.

Plan Ahead, Stay Safe: “No amount of green beer makes orange jumpsuits look good. Celebrate smart – don’t drink and drive!” – Captain Kevin Thompson, Kearney Police Department

The Kearney Police Department’s participation in this safety initiative is made possible through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Highway Safety.

Enjoy the holiday responsibly. Don’t drink and drive. Check out our web site at www.cityofkearney.org.
