Red Flag Warning in effect for Monday, March 17, (NWS Hastings, Courtesy)

HASTINGS — A Red Flag Warning has been issued for parts of central and eastern Nebraska due to critical fire weather conditions in place on Monday, March 17.

According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. this evening.

Dry air is coming down from the southern Rockies and additional dry air aloft is sinking down underneath an upper-level ridge of high pressure will drop relative humidity amounts to five to 20 percent today.

Winds will be out of the west at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

The warning for fire weather is for counties north and east of a line from Nuckolls to Buffalo counties.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
