The Hargis House in Grand Island, (Carol Bryant, Central Nebraska Today)

GRAND ISLAND — The Grand Island Public Library, Grand Island Women’s Club, Hall County Historical Society, Stuhr Museum, and YWCA of Grand Island are pleased to announce the 2025 Hall County Women’s History Walk is being held on Saturday, March 22 from 2-3 p.m. at the Hargis House located at 1109 W 2nd Street in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Over the past 150 years, Hall County has been the home of many remarkable women who made an impact on our community and beyond. In celebration of Women’s History Month, the program partners selected Hall County women to be recognized who met one (or more) of the following criteria:

• Broke barriers, challenged social norms, or paved the way for others.
• Made significant achievements in their chosen field.
• Served as leaders in community building activities or organizations.
• Made a positive impact in Hall County through philanthropy or social causes.
• Demonstrated resilience in the face of challenges and adversity.
• Played a crucial role in historical events or activities that have had a lasting impact.

The women who will be recognized during the 2025 Hall County Women’s History Walk are:

• Elizabeth Abbott – Crusader for Women’s Rights and Education
• Olive Augustine – Compassionate Caregiver
• Margaret Brown-Lewellen – Education Pioneer
• Yolanda Chávez Nuncio – Social Justice Advocate
• Bessie Frith – Educational Leader and Literacy Advocate
• Margaret Hornady – Political Trailblazer and Cultural Champion
• Alice Paine – Library Science Pioneer
• Billy Wetterer – Writer and Community Advocate

All members of the community who are interested in learning more about and celebrating these remarkable women are invited to attend this event. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
