GRAND ISLAND — A suspect was arrested after breaking into a Grand Island apartment and assaulting the resident during the evening of Saturday, April 5.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers responded to West John St. in reference to the removal of a subject after an unknown male was attempting to enter an apartment without permission.

While enroute to the apartment, officers were advised that the suspect had broken into the apartment, which resulted in a physical altercation with the 39-year-old resident who was left with visible injuries.

During the investigation officers obtained a description of the suspect who attacked the resident and was identified as Mayra Almayra from previous contacts.

Almayra was arrested for burglary, second degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. He was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
