KEARNEY — The Nebraska Association of Special Education Supervisors (NASES) has announced Melisa Dobish, Director of Special Education for Kearney Public Schools, as the 2025 recipient of the NASES Friend of Special Education Award.
This prestigious honor recognizes Dobish for her outstanding contributions, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the advancement of special education in Nebraska.
The Friend of Special Education Award is presented annually to an individual, organization, or stakeholder whose accomplishments, partnerships, or unique efforts significantly impact the improvement of special education for students, families, and school districts across the state. Although recipients may or may not be members of NASES, their impact on the field is undeniable—something clearly evident in Dobish’s work.
Selected by the NASES Executive Committee, Dobish was chosen for her strong advocacy, innovative programming, and collaborative approach to supporting students with diverse needs. Under her leadership, Kearney Public Schools has enhanced services, strengthened inclusive practices, and prioritized the needs of students with disabilities in meaningful and transformative ways.
The award was officially presented at the NASES Spring Event, where Dobish was recognized among her peers and educational leaders from across the state. As part of this honor, she is encouraged to complete a nomination for a national award—either the CASE Outstanding Administrator of Special Education Award or the CASE Distinguished Service Award—offering her work the opportunity to be acknowledged on a national platform at the annual CASE Fall Conference.
“Melisa Dobish’s recognition as the 2025 Friend of Special Education is a testament to her commitment, compassion, and leadership in special education,” said Superintendent Jason Mundorf. Missy has been a voice of leadership for students with disabilities throughout our state for many years. Her incredible knowledge, compassion, and integrity for honoring all students and their educational journey will be missed by everyone. Kearney Public Schools is proud to celebrate this well-deserved honor.”
