LINCOLN — OpenSky Policy Institute Executive Director Dr. Rebecca Firestone made these statements following Monday’s news conference announcing Nebraska’s intention to join the federal Summer EBT program.
“Economy-driving investments that empower working families to engage in the Good Life are essential to a state where all can thrive. We congratulate Governor Pillen on his decision to invest in the families of 150,000 Nebraska children, many of whom face food insecurity.
“Summer EBT will help ensure kids have consistent access to nutritious food when school is out, and similar programs have shown promising results in not only reducing child hunger but improving the quality of diet as well, ultimately enabling kids to learn and thrive. Supporting our kids while benefiting local grocers and farmers is a win-win that reflects our shared values as Nebraskans.”
